Brief history
A bridge with five arches, guarded by two heraldic figures dating from the 17th century, takes the visitor up to the drawbridge that gives access to the castle from which the middle part dates to the 14th century. The castle itself is a remarkable example of Flemish Renaissance and consists of a tall building covered in pink brick, on which the white sandstone from the sills and crosses harmonizes beautifully with the dark blue of the slate roof. The left wing is dominated by a pear-shaped spire. Against the right wing leans the chapel which hasn’t undergone a single change in three centuries.
The massive, thirty-meter high castle keep, left of the fortified gate, counts four floors. The walls are three meters thick. The platform of the fourth floor, protected by a castellated wall, offers a magnificent view of the Flemish country for up to thirty kilometers in the distance.
Possibilities
This location is ideal for all types of events, from seminars and team buildings to office parties and family days, all topped with our “medieval sauce”. A medieval tent village in the castle courtyard with a monumental castle keep as a silent witness appeals to both young and old.
Capacity
20 to 600 people can be received in the inside halls for a reception or a presentation. The orangery with a view of the park has a dining capacity of 300 people. Outside, you can opt to hold the event purely on the inner side of the moat or to include the whole 14-hectare park. A renovated greenhouse in the park covers 1000m2. As you can see: no limitations for outdoor events.
